Our content reaches almost every Australian - meaning what we do has real impact. We bring people together, celebrate the big moments, and capture the everyday ones.

Nine is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Digital Data team. You will be part of an Agile squad at the cross-section of Nine’s streaming services (9Now) and data products, responsible for collecting hundreds of millions of events daily. Your primary focus will be building, enhancing, and maintaining data models centered around VoZ, Total TV, and Streaming to enable data-informed decision-making and highly engaging consumer experiences.

Day to day you will:

  • Design and implement scalable data models and pipelines that extract, load, and transform data from various enterprise systems into the data warehouse.
  • Ensure data pipeline reliability and scalability by implementing quality checks, validation processes, and proactive monitoring and alerting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data scientists, and analysts, to deliver technical solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Act as a dedicated mentor to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning through code reviews and technical workshops.
  • Excellent team player who believes in elevating the team’s overall technical bar.
  • Proactive, good at context switching and always keen to help.
  • Perform root cause analysis for incidents and contribute to the overarching technical design and vision of the data platform.

Qualifications
What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience leading the design and construction of complex data pipelines, ETL processes, and automated workflows using tools like Apache Airflow.
  • A strong understanding of both OLTP (normalised schema design) and OLAP concepts and data model design.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and translate complex concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • A deep understanding of cloud migration strategies and experience with major cloud platforms (GCP, AWS or Azure) and CI/CD solutions.
  • An analytical mindset with a passion for creative problem-solving and a belief in elevating the team's overall technical bar.
